Norwegian thulite designer pendant

  • Details
This is truly a special piece that I designed to feature Norway's national stone, thulite. The stone's arrow shape, which signifies strength in old Norse folklore, especially endeared itself to me, and I combined the stone with a bit of my traditional Norwegian filigree work - notice the rosette wire and granulation at the bottom of the pendant. You'll see that type of filigree in the old Norwegian bunad (national folk costumes) throughout Norway. I hand make all my own filigree, and wanted to highlight this piece as a tribute to old traditions - in my own modern design style.

I fabricated the piece in sterling silver, giving the setting a notched effect (like an arrow's feathers). I also set a rhodolite garnet gemstone with the piece. The whole design is about 2 inches long, and about 3/4 inch wide. A one-of-a-kind designer piece to treasure.
