Looking for private lessons in a professional jewelry studio? I teach a variety of metals classes tailored to the individual's needs. Whether you are a brand-new hobbyist looking for basics in techniques, advice on tools, or how to get your own studio set up, or an experienced artisan seeking to further your skills in metalsmithing, I can help you. I have over 30 years of teaching experience, and have been a full time professional jewelry artist/metalsmith for 17 years. Lessons are in my studio in Clackamas, Oregon. For health and safety, and to follow social distancing guidelines, I am only teaching individual lessons or parties of two adults. Masks are required during class at all times. Here's what I teach:

*Fabrication skills using metals from copper, brass, sterling and fine silver to gold
*Soldering skills - a progression of learning, from simple to complex
*Beginning stonesetting - making custom bezels for cabochon stones, and proper stonesetting techniques for faceted stones in commercial settings
*Advanced stonesetting - making custom settings for any type of faceted or cabochon stones, including prong/basket settings, tube bezels, flush/gypsy setting, custom settings for unusual shapes of stones, and creative bezels for unique finished jewelry
*Chainmaking - from chainmaille to hand fabricated original designs, including custom findings and clasps
*Mixed metals techniques and marriage of metals
*Filigree and granulation - ancient techniques brought into the modern world, using gold and silver
*Cold connections - rivets, tabs, staples, nuts and bolts
*Mechanisms - hinges, clasps, bails, movable rivets and threaded connections
    *Layered and hollow formed jewelry

Prices are based on hourly rates beginning at $70.00 per hour, with a minimum of 2 hours for the first session. Materials costs are separate. Most tools and equipment are provided in my studio for your use.
