  • Details
Frigg was a major figure in Norse mythology, said to be the goddess of earth, home and hearth, crafts, and especially smithing. As a goldsmith and silversmith, I was excited to learn about Frigg's connection to the metal arts. Some say she was also Thor's mother, god of thunder. As such, I made this pendant as a hammer shape, but instead of a weapon, as a tool used in shaping metal into beautiful objects. Very fitting!

I make this piece in sterling silver, with granulation beads in fine silver on the surface for design. The hand carved bail not only represents the hammer handle, but also barley. The traditional metal carving by Norwegian silversmiths in the 19th century paid tribute to the harvest in their barley sheaf carved metal accents. You will see this work in the jewelry that accompanies the Norwegian bunad costumes. So, I've tried to combine the love of earth with love of craft in this special piece.

I will make this pendant to order for the goddess in your life. Surface pattern/design may vary per piece, so each necklace will be unique.
