Norwegian Thulite Earrings

Norway's national stone is thulite, and it is remarkable in the range of pinks and reds. This pair of earrings I made recently feature a gorgeous variety of raspberry, rose and whites. I set the stones in sterling silver and added my iconic silver dangles that resemble the drops used in Norwegian "solje", which refers to the silver adornments worn usually with the national costumes. The drops were commonly known to ward off evil spirits or mischief makers, because they sparkle and reflect sunlight, which can blind an evil-doer. I have always loved the folklore that leads to the creation of beautiful jewelry. And in modern times, shining a light in the darkness will certainly lift our spirits! This is my tribute to the ancient world, with a modern, minimalist flair.
