Nordic Birch Leaf Enamel Brooch Pin

As spring approaches and the world turns green again, I get inspired to capture the beauty by making jewelry featuring fresh colors. I designed this round brooch by layering an intricately pierced out leaf design and fusing it to a background piece of sterling silver. The "cut out" shapes form recesses, which I fill with delicate transparent enamels in ground glass form. These get fired in a hot kiln so the glass melts and fuses to the silver. This ancient technique is known as champleve enamel. The colors are luminous greens, with a hint of blue - just a teaser of spring! The brooch pin on the back allows you to wear it on a variety of clothing, hats, scarves, or your favorite rucksack to take with you on spring walks.
